Diapers

Soooo after almost two years of using cloth diapers we stopped a few weeks ago. Basically Bob threw down about it (because our BGs need to be stripped and get the elastic replaced) and we've been using disposables. I'm mostly OK with it since we CD'd so long and Reese will be potty trained soon but it does make me a little sad.

And now I have all these diapers I don't know what to do with. I might just sell the Goodmamas since Bob hated them anyway. We still don't know when/if we'll have another kid so I don't know if I should hold on to most of them (store how???) or sell them and then just rebuy if we need them again.

Thoughts?

NaNoWriMo Is Coming!

(copied from my blog)

I’ve mentioned before that I really like fall. One of the reasons has come to be the amazing event that is National Novel Writing Month. This year marks my seventh year of participation in the crazy month of writing.

Although I make feeble attempts at fiction writing throughout the year, the bulk of my creative writing happens each November, when I become attached to my laptop and seek out coffee shops all over town to write my 50,000 words. On the surface, that number seems like an easy feat. After all, it’s only 1,667 words a day. If you are a good typist and know where you are going in your story, that can be cranked out in two hours or less. And yet, many writers I know aren’t able to cross the finish line.

You have to let go. We all want our writing to be perfect, amazing reflections of ourselves and our wit. The dialogue is smarter than an episode of Veronica Mars and the plot is more intriguing than Lost. And in the course of a high-octane writing session in November all of that needs to go out the window. You just need to get the words down. Editing comes later. You need to create what one of my writing professors called “the shitty first draft”.

You might not get past that first draft, even if you get to The End. I’ve never gone back and tried to fix up my NaNo novels, but I’ve read them later on. A lot of it is crap. But there are some good things in there. Character descriptions, soliloquies, an especially smart turn of phrase. I didn’t remember writing half of it, but that all came from letting my inner editor (and as a copyeditor, I have a huge one) take a vacation down to the coast.

This year I’m planning on going to the Night of Writing Dangerously. This event in San Francisco raises money to fund writing projects all over the world, in classrooms and other communities. I've wanted to be a writer since I was in the first grade, and while I had some great teachers, I can't imagine how wonderful it would be to have something like the Young Writers' Program to nurture that dream. By attending the Night of Writing Dangerously, I can help kids who have the same dream to get their words out there. But I need sponsors to help me get there.

What's in it for you, I can hear you asking.

$5 - Electronic access to read the novel in December

$10 - Name a minor character in the novel. It could be yourself, it could be someone you make up! If you'd like it to be yourself, please send me a description if I've never met you before.

$20 - Name a location to be featured in the novel.

$30 - Name a major character in the novel.

$40 - Electronic access to read the novel as I write it in November

$50 - Electronic access to read the novel as I write it, plus a homemade treat sent to you in December.

$100 - Electronic access to read the novel as I write it, a homemade treat, AND name the novel!

Can you tell I don't expect anyone to donate $100? I don't know what I'll do if I have multiple $100 donors, besides be amazed at all of you wonderful readers.

Go here to help sponsor me today!

Ahh!

Reese turns two on Thursday!

This evening he recited the entire alphabet to me for the first time. I don't know what that is on the scale of kid-learning stuff but I think it's pretty awesome. When I was in kindergarten I think half the kids didn't know the alphabet.

We got him a new bedding set that has a pillowcase and comforter and I set his crib up like a "real" bed. He freaking loves it and ASKED to go to bed tonight.

Reese and Bob are off in Minnesota until Labor Day. It is very very weird. I'm excited about sleeping in on Saturday and Sunday, though. Although I sometimes get to go back to sleep, I don't think I've slept straight through the night past 7 a.m. in 2 years.

If you're in my book club, please go here and sign up for the forum. No one has been using GoodReads (and I admit I haven't been a very good leader) so I'm trying to do something to prompt discussion.

Let me know if you have ideas for more participation.

BTW you should be reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle now.

I'm thinking about getting my hairs cut.

If you can point me in the direction of cute short cuts for oval faces and fine hair please do so! I can never find good pictures.

I know, I've been rather quiet on here. My internet time is pretty much all spent on Facebook, Twitter, flickr, or my blog.

Off the computer, this is the kind of thing I've been up to:

Where do I get alphabet magnets?

btw 26 Across came yesterday and I LOVE it. It's the same colors as Drummer (teal and black), which is my favorite OBV. I used to be a crossword fiend. We even had a crossword in our wedding programs. So I'm really happy I got it :)

I am the worst book group host ever! I just realized that we are starting Wonder Boys in a few days, and I haven't even finished Water for Elephants yet. Plus no one is really using the discussion board on GoodReads. Whoops.

Reese has been cutting his molars for about TWO MONTHS now. One of them has broken through but the other one is still hovering underneath the gums, apparently. I am SO glad I don't remember how teething felt.

If you read my blog, I moved it. It's now at

http://www.stetted.com

with no subdirectories.

This means if you're subscribed on my LJ feed it won't work anymore, and a new one will need to be created. Or you can just subscribe using Google Reader or Feedburner or something like that.

I'm pretty much only there, flickr, and facebook these days.

(sorry for the double post for some of you)

I just ordered three pairs of shoes and a cloche hat from Nine West.

I have a problem, y'all.

But look how cute! Notice how I got a range of heel heights. I didn't want to get two pairs in brown but I think those both look better brown than black. 'Course, they might look terrible on me anyway so we'll see.

I don't really have anything to say lately. Boring, I know, but I'm emotionally wiped these days. And my life is quite peaceful compared to some. A local mama whose blog I read has her tiny son in the hospital and I can't even begin to think about how awful it must be for her. I can't because I start crying every time I think about it and how lucky I am to have a child who is healthy and strong.

I think I need to go cuddle my sleeping boy.

Have some cake.
